Regenerative Gardening: Growing Food Successfully and Sustainably in a Changing Climate

May 1 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

We know that climate change is already affecting the weather and seasonal patterns of temperature and rainfall. Because these changes affect plant growth, being aware of them and making some simple changes in how you garden can help you grow your own food more successfully. Gardeners can also be part of the climate solution by using climate-friendly sustainable gardening practices. As a bonus, many of these practices also make gardening easier!

Dr. Sara Via is a Professor and Climate Extension Specialist at UMD College Park. Before she began to teach Marylanders about climate change impacts and solutions in 2014, Sara did experiments on the genetics and evolution of specialized host plant use in insects. She now works extensively with the Maryland Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists and speaks to community organizations about climate impacts and solutions, biodiversity, and climate-friendly landscaping and gardening. Since 2020, Sara has offered a Climate Change and Sustainability webinar series every summer. Learn more at www.climatecorner.org.
